THE TYPES OF LEGAL AID
ABWOR:
This type of legal aid is offered if the defendant has pleaded guilty OR not guilty at the beginning of a case. You usually have to earn less than £245 a week to qualify, not including your expenses, and have no more than £1716 capital. Though your dependants will be taken into consideration, you may need to pay a small amount to contribute to the legal aid.
Summary Legal Aid:
This support applies to those who earn more than £245 and wish to plead guilty at the start of their case. This type of aid considers your expenses - your car, mortgage, loans and credit card payments. The higher they are, the more likely you are to be accepted however, the capital limit still applies. You will not need to pay a contribution.
